Franz Bistro

Thanks to our many gastronomical encounters from all over the globe we have realized that it is hard to be selective about our culinary memories. Greta loves steak tartare, and I can’t stay away from fresh shellfish. So, when we asked the chefs here at Mårtenson to create a menu based on our taste the inspiration was from sunny alleyways in the Caribbean, that one French bistro in Andouille, tartare from Singapore and of course the crab salad we had on a cliff in Havstenssund. It wasn’t an easy task for the chefs, but they succeeded. Here you will find both big and small dishes with inspiration from our travels, and in the bar we serve classic cocktails with a modern twist. Try one of our signature cocktails while looking at our wine list with carefully selected wines from all over the globe.

Gretas Café

When we drink our morning coffee, we often sit and dream about one of our travels to New York. We ate a lot of exciting things we had never seen back home in Halmstad. I told Franz, “We need to do this at Mårtenson.” So when we returned from overseas, we started planning right away.

In our café, you’ll find our own coffee, carefully selected tea blends, local beer bottles and some selected wines from our cellar. Here, we serve lunch for the day, see meny in Franz Bistro, danish smorebread, salads, lovely cakes and a lot more. Franz might even serve some of his favourite pastries, and that’s something you don’t want to miss. We also have take away if you do not have time to et your lunch at our place.

Gretas Tak

High up among the rooftops, you’ll find our hidden diamond; a playful oasis inspired by garden parties at the apple orchards around Halmstad. Here, you’ll come for the company and stay for the sunset. Pearly drinks with floral infusions are paired with sinfully good food from our childhood with a twist. A natural place during the hot summer months as well as crisp autumn evenings, together with a blanket while sipping on a hot drink. 


A quick daytime meal, a long business lunch or just a fresh salad? Our bistro lunch offers something for everyone and the menu varies between classic dishes and creative creations, exactly like we do it in the evenings. The lunch is served à la carte and cold beverages are matched to each dish, which changes every day.

Spicy Bloody Marys, crisp Cava, lavish eggs Benedict, crouque monsieur and American pancakes. These are only a few of the delicacies we offer at our weekend à la carte brunch. With an effortless atmosphere and genuine service, we can truly say that we offer a world-class brunch in Halmstad’s most beautiful restaurant.


Mårtenson’s breakfast is served in Salongen, and it’s all about caring for the ingredients, which depend on the season. Swedish apples in the autumn, blood oranges during the late winter, combined with carefully fried bacon, crispy croissants and perfectly creamy scrambled eggs. Breakfast is also about soft fabrics and a warm smile – it’s all about the details. Franz and I love to enjoy Mårtenson’s breakfast in Salongen.

Chef's table

Welcome to the heart of Mårtenson, our favourite place, the mythical chef's table, or as we call it, Köksbordet. Located next to the kitchen to get as close to the chefs as possible, it’s where we invite our guests to tastings and banquets. Here, conversations that never want to end start, while chefs present culinary masterpieces and wines with high dignity flow. Chef´s Table gives a 6-cours menu, served, including specifically wines for each serving. Taste experiences that enchant every gourmet lover.

Minimum 8 people maximum 12 people.

The menu is composed by our food creator, Johannes Dahlström, who has his experience from michelin restaurants in Gothenburg and Bar manager Jamie Randall.

Chambres Separée

Mårtenson’s chambres separées are flexible rooms. Meetings, conferences, dinners and tailored events for when you want to have a more intimate feeling, but still be close to everything.
